Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is taught as part of our Language Other Than English (LOTE) program.
Students from Prep through to Grade 6 participate in weekly sessions. The unique and much loved specialist subject, Auslan is the main form of communication used by the Deaf community. Our students begin with learning how to finger spell the letters of the alphabet as well as commonly used words and phrases.
Signs are combined with facial expressions to show the different emotions and meanings of words. As students progress through their primary school years, they sequentially increase their knowledge and understanding of different signs with the ability to translate and communicate full sentences.
A very special part of our Auslan program is the culminating event at the end of year Christmas concert where the whole school performs a signing song in unison.
