At Officer Primary School, our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) program integrates five key areas from the Victorian Curriculum to provide a holistic and engaging learning experience.
Teachers use an integrated approach to planning, informed by the Victorian Curriculum, to ensure students develop a cohesive understanding of STEAM concepts. This interdisciplinary method fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Collaborative projects enhance students’ learning and exploration of STEAM subjects. Students have access to diverse resources, including digital tools and hands-on materials.
In each STEAM lesson from Foundation to Year 6, students participate in dynamic and interactive activities that stimulate curiosity and innovation. These activities include science experiments, digital coding projects, engineering challenges, building prototypes and creating artworks.
The STEAM curriculum at Officer Primary School aims to:
– Inspire a lifelong interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics
– Develop the ability to think critically and creatively to solve real-world problems
– Encourage collaboration and communication skills through team-based projects and discussions
– Foster an appreciation for the interconnectedness of different disciplines and their applications in everyday life and future careers
– Provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful and relevant learning experiences that prepare them for the future.
Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, encouraging them to become innovative thinkers and responsible citizens.
